Structural Steel Estimator opportunity in the CA area


My name is Tim Daugherty, Metal Industry recruiter on a national level. We are seeking an experienced for a STRUCTURAL STEEL ESTIMATOR opportunity with a successful STRUCTURAL STEEL company in the CA area.
Structural Steel Estimator
  • Sets up bid packages / estimate requests and ensures timely submission to the client
  • Conducts pre-estimate meetings with management to plan bid strategy and review specification requirements on the scope of work
  • Attends on-site meetings / bid walks as required with clients in an effort to fully understand the scope of work Identify deficiencies in the drawings and other source information and be able to provide pricing for such deficiencies
  • Understand the need for, and be able to write, scope clarifications
  • Develop preliminary schedules Prepares and reviews detailed estimates in accordance with the client's drawings and specifications.
  • Performs quantity take-offs, determines necessary manpower, special equipment requirements, material items and necessary subcontractors, as needed
  • Creates detailed proposal letter which lists specific items that are included and excluded from the quote in accordance with the client's specifications and request for quote
  • Conducts bid review meetings as deemed necessary with business line management to ensure accuracy, finalize bids and discuss strategy
  • Develops and maintains a bid folder (electronic or paper) that contains pertinent information related to the bid
  • Procures firm / detailed quotes from material suppliers, special equipment suppliers and necessary subcontractors
  • Consults with clients, vendors or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues
  • Periodically reviews and suggests updates in estimating policies, standards and procedures
At least 5 years' experience in estimating pipe, vessel, and structural steel projects. Good basic mathematical skills. Have good visualization skills to understand what the finished product depicted on the drawings will look like when built. Good interpersonal and problem solving skills and be an effective team member. Solid technical skills with a thorough knowledge of estimating principals. Familiar with estimate classifications and the quality of information needed to attain the expected accuracy level. Must have good verbal communication and written communication skills. Must exemplify high safety, ethical, and professional behaviors through individual actions. Good computer and problem solving skills, including operating knowledge of MS Office; including Word and Excel.
