Position Description:

Estimator

Salary:

$70k – $100k

JOB SUMMARY:

The Estimator is responsible for crafting timely and precise project cost estimates for various projects. This role entails maintaining consistent and timely communication with the Sales, Manufacturing, and Operations teams. The Estimator will leverage project drawings, specifications, and project-specific requirements to create an accurate estimation of project costs. The Estimator will utilize a range of computer software applications to develop bids and subsequent proposals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop strategic bids that include in-depth cost analysis, alternative material considerations, risk assessments, and recommendations. This involves presenting data to the Executive and Leadership teams.

• Generate project cost estimates in line with industry best practices and prior experience.

• Identify, document, and communicate project-related scope of work and specifications.

• Record errors, omissions, and ambiguities found in bid documents.

• Collaborate with the Sales, Operations, and Manufacturing teams to ensure project continuity and meet deadlines.

• Participate in scope review meetings with clients to showcase the company's expertise in the metals industry and project knowledge.

• Source and qualify vendors and suppliers related to the project.

• Implement strategies and pricing guidelines provided by the Operations Manager.

• Verify and provide justification for all costs incorporated into an estimate.

• Guide and mentor junior and intermediate Estimators during their development.

Secondary Job Functions:

• Price and review change order requests.

• Understand job cost records and their relevance to estimating.

• Review shop drawings to identify variations from estimated methods and costs.

• Prepare reports and estimate documentation for participation in project hand-off meetings.

• Provide technical support for sales presentations, including detailed material specifications, manufacturing methods, and installation techniques.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• A Bachelor’s degree in construction management or a related field, or a combination of industry experience and education.

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in ornamental metals, carpentry, drywall, or a similar industry.

• Demonstrated expertise and knowledge within the millwork industry, both in the shop and the field.

• Proficiency in reading blueprints, interior design, and architectural drawings.

• Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• The capability to work effectively under time pressure and prioritize tasks.

• Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail.

• Outstanding interpersonal skills, allowing effective interaction with all levels within the organization, as well as customers and vendors.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate verbally and listen. Although this role is primarily sedentary, the employee frequently needs to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee may occasionally need to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to five pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, color differentiation, and the ability to focus.
